We had fewer kids at the Teaneck location during the 2nd week but it does not mean that we had less fun. The coaches for the week: Solomon, Zoya, Ivette, Izmail and Orren. The unpopular circle activity gained the momentum thanks to a Holiday mood and Miya Shelton generosity. Miya let us borrow her very dear soft toy, Spots, and we passed it around the circle. Miya’s act of kindness brought a warm sentiment to the circle and the most reluctant campers participated. The quotes were “Tell us one thing you have learned in chess during this week, or, your most memorable 4th of July”. The unique thing about this circle was that 2 participants shared their thoughts in other than English languages, Spanish and Russian, and once again proved that the name of our school, International Chess Academy, was not just picked randomly.
Since the weather did not permit us to go outside on 2 days, coaches had to be creative in finding activities that would be no less fun than playing Dodge Ball outside. The most interest was drawn to the Bug House/Blitz team completion organized by Ivette and Solomon. Everyone was engaged! The other activity was a “Human Brain-Calculator” competition. The fastest “Human Calculators” were: level 1-Lloyd Akai-Dennis and level 2- James Robinson.
You can see the results of all competitions in the Master Prize list, week 2.
